“Be Low-Key. Be Private. Be Humble.”

new year perspective

I recently saw a quote on a canvas bag as I was looking for holiday gifts this year. I remember reading it and it stopped me in my tracks and I thought, “Oh… this is so true!”

It read: “Be Low-key. Be private. Be humble.”

I looked at it again and read it multiple times and realized, “These are goals for 2019.”

We all need to slow down, connect with ourselves, and be kind.

BE LOW-KEY

  • Let 2019 be the year of easy. Let us make all things easy again. Let’s have summers full of playing in the backyard, basement birthday parties, and frozen pizza Friday nights. Let’s stop over-scheduling activities and just enjoy each other’s company. Let 2019 be the year for making your life easy. Let us stop killing ourselves as parents to make every single moment of our children’s life a magical fairytale. Instead, we will focus on letting the kids play, imagine, and be little. This year focus on not stressing about things we see on social media. Be a parent, a partner, and a friend in the way that you know best and not the way others do it. Try and focus your own instincts. Stay low-key and do what keeps you calm and centered this 2019.

BE PRIVATE

  • In 2019 let us keep family issues in the family. Let us stop airing our grievances on social media. Gather advice from your close friends, family, and the professionals instead of seeking it out in other forums. Sometimes you need to simply keep yourself to yourself. Try not to divulge too much information, that way no one else can characterize you. Surround yourself with people who respect you and lean on those people for support in your 2019.

BE HUMBLE

  • Be humble and have the ability to be teachable. In 2019 be open to learning about the other person’s point of view. Be prepared to learn from experiences. Give up the need to impress. Be kind. Do good deeds this year without blasting it on social media. Recognize the difference between being excited and braggy. Lastly, always remember your where you came from.

Here’s to 2019! May it be all you want it to be!

Until next time…
