From The Orchard To Kitchen: Top Apple Recipes

So you’ve combed the orchard with your tots (leaving countless cores in your wake), and now you are left with all of these bags of apples! What’s next you ask? Here are some of my top apple laced recipes for this fall season!

Stuffed French Toast Pockets

Stuffed French Toast

White bread slices

2 eggs

2 tablespoons of milk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

8 oz of cream cheese

1/2 cup honey

1/2 tsp of cinnamon

Apple pie filling (make your own using sliced apples, lemon juice, and sugar, and warming in a frying pan until apples are soft)

  • Mix together cream cheese, honey, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and apple mixture for the filling. Chill in fridge for at least 30 min.
  • Preheat oven to 400
  • Flatten / roll out a slice of white bread or brioche.
  • Place a dollop of filling in the middle of flattened bread
  • Place the other flattened slice on top.
  • Use a large cookie cutter (I used a heart shape) or a jar lid to cut out shape and remove crust.
  • Purse all the edges with a fork.
  • Dip each “pocket” into egg mixture of eggs, vanilla, and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
  • Bake for 15-20 min (or until golden brown) on a baking rack with a cookie sheet below to catch the drips.

Cinnamon Apple Roses

4 sheets of puff pastry

Thinly sliced apples

Cream cheese

Lemon juice

  • Slice apple in half and remove the core. Thinly slice, think potato chip thickness.
  • Put apple slices, lemon juice, and water in a bowl, microwave for 3 minutes.
  • Cut puff pastry into 4 even strips, my sheets from Kroger could only be cut into 3 strips per sheet.
  • Spread cream cheese on the top half, sprinkle sugar along the cream cheese, and arrange apple slices so top 1/4 of slice is hanging off the edge.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon on top.
  • Roll puff pastry up and place into greased cupcake tins.
  • Bake for 40 min at 375.

Wine ‘o’ clock Apple Cider Sangria

1 bottle of Pinot Grigio

3 cups of your favorite apple cider from your favorite apple orchard (check out our recommended list here)   Fall Apple Orchards

1 cup of club soda

3 chopped honey crisp apples (and other fruits you may wish to add)

1/2 cup of ginger brandy (regular brandy works if you can’t find any)

  • Instructions are simple for this one! Either make your own apple cider (for you ambitious mothers out there) or pick up your favorite. Combine the ingredients and refrigerate before serving.
  • Garnish with diced or sliced apples!

Oatmeal Crumb Apple Pie

About 6 large apples. I use 3 green apples and 3 honey crisp apples.

Brown sugar

Apple Cider Vinegar

Deep dish frozen pie crusts

  • Slice your apples and toss them with 1/2 c. brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. I put a lid on a large mixing bowl and really shake the mixture to up to kind of beat up and soften the apples.
  • Place the filling mixture in your deep dish frozen (now thawed) pie crust. Or make your own pie crust!
  • Make the oatmeal crumble topping by mixing together your oats, flour, and melted butter.
  • Place the oatmeal topping in “flattened globs” over the filling
  • Preheat oven to 375 and bake for 30 minutes, lower temperature to 350, rotate, and bake for another 30-35 min.
  • (I eyeball all ingredients to taste and don’t use any real specific measurements. They always turn out tasting great though!)

Happy Baking!!!
