Fall has made an appearance! It is our favorite season of the year and a beautiful time in Columbus, Ohio to create some fall traditions.

We wanted to share some of the fun events and activities to do around town and at home this season!

Fall Traditions

  1. Leeds Farm
    • Weekends Only September 21, 2024-October 27, 2024 and ONE Friday- October 18!
    • They have so many farm activities to keep your family moving all day, including their  40 barnyard activities, hayrides, farm animals, and farm pond. Feed the goats and visit the pigs too! Buy a ticket online to save $4 at the gate.Pumpkin Farm- Leeds Farm
  2. Orchard and Company (Apple Picking and More)
    • September 7, 2024- October 27, 2024
    • Apple picking along with family fun! Farm animals, pedal car track, the Moo Moo Express, zip lines, and delicious fall foods!
  3. Homemade Apple Sauce
    • Try this recipe after picking your delicious apples:
      • 12 apples sliced and peeled
      • 1/2 cup sugar
      • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
      • 1/2 cup water
      • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
      • To prepare, toss your apples in lemon juice and coat with sugar and cinnamon. Next, place in a slow cooker and add water. Cover the apples and cook on high for 4 hours.
  4. Pigeon Roost Farm
    • September 14, 2024-October 31, 2024 open Friday-Sunday (Open Wednesday- Sunday in 2024)
    • Pumpkin picking, mazes, giant slides and fort! Come out and enjoy a day on the farm! One of our favorite fall traditions!
  5. OSU Skull Session
    • Listen to the sounds of the OSU famous marching band for free! The sessions will happen 2 hours before home football games at St. Johns Arena. Make sure to arrive early to get a seat for you and the kids (give yourself a solid 20 mins.) This is such a fun rally for the big games and my kids love it!

6. Bike Ride on The Olentangy Trail

    • As the trees start to change, hop on a bike with the family and enjoy the Olentangy Trail!

7.  Hayden Falls Park

      • Want some great fall foliage pictures? The trail has a nice short boardwalk to the falls for a picturesque afternoon.

8. Lynd Fruit Farm

    • Apple picking starts early in September. Please see link for dates and times for picking.
    • Great apple picking, fun corn maze and market for all to enjoy!

9. Boo at the Zoo

    • Occurs on the weekends from October 11, 2024 -October 27, 2024!
    • Visit the Columbus Zoo dressed in your best costumes! Go enjoy the animals and Halloween treats and fun candy stops along the way! This event makes for a great fall tradition!

10. Circleville Pumpkin Show

    • October 16-19, 2024
    • Want to see some massive pumpkins? This event is a must! Enjoy the impressive display of pumpkins and some amazing pumpkin-themed food along with family fun activities. This event is one of central Ohio’s favorites and there’s free admission!

11. Host A Football Tailgate

    • Pick a game and enjoy a tailgate with family and friends! One of our favorite things about fall is watching some football, playing yard games, and eating great food!
    • Try this Sweet Potato and Black Bean Chili for your next tailgate!

12. The MAiZE at Little Darby Creek

    • Opens September 21, 2024- October 27, 2024 for corn maze fun and a pumpkin patch!
    • Want to experience the most epic corn maze in Central Ohio? You have to come to the 9-acre MAiZE at Little Darby Creek. Have fun with the whole family and enjoy an afternoon in the amazing cornfield.

13. Worthington Farmers Market

    • Outdoor May-October on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
    • Stroll the streets of historic Worthington and sip on hot apple cider and enjoy warm donuts! Take in the pretty fall colored leaves and visit all the great vendors at the farmers market! It is one of the best spots for fall in Columbus.

14. Great Goblin Fest in Gahanna

    • October 25, 2024
    • Gahanna Parks & Recreation brings you The Great Gahanna Goblin Fest! The community is invited to a festive Halloween experience which will include live entertainment, a choreographed light show, fire performers, stilt walkers, trick or treat trail, and many more surprises along the way!

15. Fright at the Museum

        • Head back in time with a midcentury monster mash at the Lustron House.
        • Explore the origins of American Halloween celebrations through time.
        • Weave a web of spooky stories with time travelling tales and storytelling games.
        • End the evening with a dance party on the red carpet! New in 2024!

16. Bake some Pumpkin cookies!

          • Pumpkin Cake Batter Cookies (super easy!)
            • 1 15 oz Can of Cooked Pumpkin Puree
            • 1 Box Spice Cake Mix
            • 1 Cup Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
            • Frosting/Icing (optional)
            • Heat oven to 350, combine cake mix and pumpkin puree with a mixer and add in the chocolate chips. Scoop tablespoons full onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.

17. Candy By the Carload

              • 2024 date TBD
              • It’s a trick-or-treater’s treasure chest as local businesses and organizations set up booths and car trunks filled with candy, toys and other Halloween goodies.

18. Fall Festival at Oakland Nursery

    • Enjoy weekend door prizes and some weekend events on October 12th and 13th, 2024!

19. Haunted Houses

  • Check out our favorite haunted houses and spooky trails around the city!

20. Take a Trip to The Wilds

  • Embark on a safari adventure or rent a yurt for the night!

Maureen Ingham
Maureen Ingham has enjoyed living in the great city of Columbus for nearly 13 years! Originally from Canton, Ohio, Maureen attended Ohio University and will always be a bobcat at heart! After completing her education degree in Athens, she made her way to The Ohio State University to obtain a Masters degree in Special Education. She fell in love with Columbus then and convinced her now husband to join her in this awesome city! She taught 5th grade for 6 years, before deciding to stay home to raise two beautiful girls. Their family has recently moved to Worthington with their two girls and are excited to plant their roots here! Their first daughter, Maeve is 6 and her sister, Reese will soon be 5 years old. They welcomed a son, Miles in March 2020. Maureen has been with The Columbus Moms Blog since the beginning and now enjoys working on editing and events for the blog. She also works as a Postpartum Doula with her sister at a company called Together Wee Grow. They provide night nursing services, as well as daytime support to local families and babies in Columbus. It is a wonderful job to work along her sister and help families with their precious little ones in a vulnerable time period. In between the night shifts, sweeping up crumbs, exploring Columbus, and getting kids to where they need to be, Maureen enjoys working out, trying new recipes and restaurants, traveling, spending time with family, being crafty and trying to help others whenever she can! Maureen has many Columbus favorites. Her go-to restaurant is Third and Hollywood, she enjoys a sweet treat at Sassafrass Bakery or Fox in the Snow, a slice of pizza at Dewey's Pizza and a warm cup of joe at Highline Coffee. A perfect Saturday involves an outdoor activity with her family and trying a new restaurant when they can! She is excited to be a part of an excellent team here at Columbus Moms blog and hopes to be able to inspire mothers that small acts of kindness go a long way in raising their kids and the city they live in!
