Summer Beauty Must-Haves

0

If you are anything like me, summer means more makeup free days and a change in beauty routine. Heavy makeup and beauty products just don’t mix well with hot and humid days, so summer is my time to switch over to lighter and more refreshing products. The best part is there are so many options out there that won’t break the bank.

Here are my must-have summer beauty products!

Lightweight Face Moisturizer

A good face moisturizer is the foundation of any skin care routine. It’s especially important during summer when your skin is being exposed to more sunshine and outdoor elements. Keep your face feeling refreshed with a lightweight moisturizer that won’t leave you feeling sticky or greasy. I am really loving Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. It works well on my combination skin without causing breakouts, and leaves my skin feeling quenched and soft. The best part is you can get it for under $20 at any big box store or drugstore!

CC Cream w/ SPF

Unless I’m going out for a rare date night or girls night, foundation is just not part of my beauty routine during the hot summer months. Instead, I opt for a CC cream with SPF. It’s lightweight, goes on like a moisturizer, but also provides enough coverage to smooth out any blemishes or dark spots. And with the added SPF protection, I don’t have to worry about sunscreen so it’s a win win! My go to brand is from It Cosmetics, which can be purchased at most beauty product stores. This one is a little more expensive, but with its appropriate name of “Your Skin But Better” it’s definitely worth it! I can get a big tube for just under $40, and only needing one pump a day it lasts all summer long.

Under Eye Mask

Less makeup means showing off more of your natural glow! But as a mom, my under eyes aren’t always “glowing”. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean I’m any less tired chasing my kids around – actually quite the opposite! So to combat those dark and puffy undereye circles, try to work an eye mask into your bedtime routine once a week. There are endless varieties on the market and they can be bought almost anywhere beauty products are sold. Because they are so popular, you can easily find one to match your needs and preference in ingredients. I recently tried a gold under eye mask from Oh K! and was really happy with the results, especially with the bargain price of $2.50!

Texturizing Hair Spray

I am a mom who keeps my hair pretty low maintenance. I like it long so I can throw it up in a ponytail, which is how it ends up on most days. But I do try to style it enough times to make my trips to the beauty salon worth the money! And every girl knows a good hairspray is crucial to any hairstyle. But recently I have found that you don’t always need a heavy, stiff spray for your style to last the day. Texturizing spray helps gives your hair the body and bounce it needs, and it’s so much lighter and refreshing on your hair! For me, texturizing spray holds up much better in the heat of summer than traditional hairspray. My favorite is Davines This is a Dry Texturizer Spray, which is hard to find in stores or online but I pick it up at my local salon.

Body Scrub

Summer is when we show off more skin, breaking out those tank tops, shorts, and swimsuits! Keep your skin feeling soft and smooth with a good exfoliating body scrub. I keep mine in the shower and use it about twice a week. It also helps prevent ingrown hairs from shaving more often during the summer too! And if you are a self-tanning lotion user, exfoliating your skin often helps keep your sunless tan longer. I love the variety of scents available from Tree Hut! Right now I’m using the cotton candy scent and it smells delicious! You can pick up a big jar of body scrub from any big box store or drug store for under $10, or you could opt for one of the more expensive brands found at beauty stores.

Tinted Lip Gloss

I love a good lip color. I feel like it helps my face pop and finishes off my look. But during the summer when I am already going light in the makeup department, I don’t want too much weight in my lip area. That’s why I enjoy using a tinted lip gloss. It’s light, gives me just enough color, and won’t create a messy smear if I get a little sweaty outside. My favorite is Butter Gloss by NYX, which can be found for under $5 in so many fun colors at your local drugstore or department store.

These are the summer beauty staples that get me through the summer, but don’t let this small list limit you! Think of it more as a jumping off point. Use the summer season to try out new beauty products to find out what works best for your skin and routine. I’m always on the look out for new products to help cut down on my morning beauty routine and help my natural skin shine through! Share your favorite in the comments below!
