When It’s Too Hot to Play Outside: Summer Indoor Activities

0

I always welcome the start of summer and the ability to get outside more with my kids! However, once it gets to July and August, it’s sadly sometimes a little too hot to get outside a lot, especially in the afternoon. Never fear, I’ve found some great summer indoor activities when it’s too hot to play outside!

Summer Indoor Activities

Library, Several Locations

I remember doing the library summer reading program when I was little and now I do it with my kids! We’re lucky to have so many great libraries in Columbus and the surrounding communities.

When it’s too hot outside, the library is a great place to escape to! Not only can your kids (and maybe you, if you’re lucky!) pick out books to read, but most offer other activities like story time, iPad stations, coloring pages and more! You could easily spend an afternoon each week during the summer at one of our local libraries and the best part? It’s free!

Recreations Outlet, Powell

This has quickly become my kids favorite place to go! Recreations Outlet is a company which sells outdoor playsets, but they allow the public to come and play on the equipment in their huge indoor showroom. They have daily playtimes and even discounted times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, where the proceeds are donated to local charities.

Play Cbus, Worthington

Want to get your kids some exercise, but it’s too hot outside? Play Cbus, located in Worthington, is a great place to escape to! They have 53,000 square feet of indoor fun, including a ropes course, climbing wall, ninja and obstacle courses, zipline and more! There’s also a full restaurant and bar if you want to extend your stay!

They’re open 6 days a week (Tuesday-Sunday) with times starting at 10:00 on the weekends and 11:00 on the weekdays. Some weekdays have special rates, so be sure to check their website before booking to save!

Graeter’s Indoor Play Place, Columbus

I know you’re probably all familiar with Graeter’s Ice Cream, but did you know their location on Bethel Road has an indoor play area? There is fun ice cream play equipment, like an ice cream truck, ice cream cone slide and banana see-saw. There’s even a small 3+Under play area, which is nice for the really little ones. My kids love this play area and the best part, having ice cream afterwards.

Summer Movie Series at Marcus Theatres, Worthington + Pickerington

We have yet to try this summer movie series, but I’ve heard great things and it’s on my list to try this summer with my kids! Cool down inside with reduced price movies your kids are sure to love! You can find the schedule here.

Wendy's Gymnastics

Wendy’s Gymnastics, Upper Arlington

Both of my kids have taken lessons at Wendy’s Gymnastics and have loved them! However, if you’re not ready for the commitment of weekly lessons or just looking for the occasional activity, did you know they offer 1-hour open gyms for kids 0-12? My kids love their Open Gym classes where they can do whatever they want! The block pit and trampoline are two of their favorites! Check their website for dates/times and to sign up!
