It’s official, Central Ohio has survived its first big snow of the season! Pats on the back to everyone who helped keep streets clear and children sane. As for the latter, I’m looking at you parents. The older I get, the more I love living in a place where I can experience all four seasons with my family. And yes, that includes snowy winters. Still, when it snows, there’s a bit of anxiety that strikes when I’m thinking of ways my children can blow off a little steam. I know I’m not alone here. So, let’s take one collective deep breath and get out of the house!
What are we doing? I thought you’d never ask! Here are a few ideas for every activity level.
Find a Good Book!
Between your local library or bookstore, you probably won’t have to go far to get lost in a new book. It gets everyone out of the house for a change of scenery, and you may even be lucky enough to be there for a planned or impromptu book reading or other activity. It’s a fun way to keep their minds active while you try to keep out the winter blues away.
Get Outside!
Hear me out…as much as you may want to stay inside, crank up the heat, and throw on your mermaid Snuggie, fight the urge and head outside! Just as with warmer months, going outside really gets your heart pumping, which is important since the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics advises children need an hour of exercise daily, regardless of the weather. I’m not saying stay outside a full hour in sub-zero temps. You definitely want to bundle up and may opt to play outside in shorter bursts of time so no one gets too cold. Just be on the lookout for the next balmy 35 degree day and go outside to make a snowman and some memories.
Get Crazy with Lazer Kraze
If your children are totally bouncing off the walls and you need to take them somewhere they’re encouraged to get the sillies out then Lazer Kraze is all about it! Between Lazer Kraze’s two Central Ohio locations in Gahanna and Lewis Center, your family can choose from laser tag, arcade games, inflatables, a trampoline park, and Cyber Sport, a blend of basketball and lacrosse with a bit of bumper cars. Yep, you can work on team-building and stress levels by *ahem, accidentally* bumping into your kids. Just in case you’re not yet reading this from your car en route to Lazer Kraze, you should know they have a snack bar with fresh made pizzas. You’re not making dinner tonight. You’re welcome.
Whether you go for pizzas and video games at Lazer Kraze or snowmen and books, don’t let the temps keep you cooped up this winter!
