Have you visited Galena, Ohio before? It’s just thirty-ish minutes from Columbus and has a lot to offer. We enjoy checking out new places and we have randomly taken trips to Galena, Ohio. So I thought I could pull them all together and put a pretty bow on top!
1. Gnomewood Skills Park
6002-, 6090 Lewis Center Rd, Galena
This is a bike trail, so if you have kids that are old enough and adventurous enough, go for it! We enjoyed walking through it. But please be respectful if there are bikers and give them the right of way.
2. Hoover Mudflats Boardwalk
When we went, the gate to the boardwalk was locked unfortunately. But, you can walk down the hill beside it and get a closer look of the water. The boardwalk is along the Hoover Reservoir and would be great for sight seeing and fishing. My girls love walking on bridges and boardwalks. The sound and open feeling make it special. And we even heard and saw ospreys, cranes and a lot of other birds.
We did find a trail at this opening. You had a better view and a nice hike.
3. Sambuca’s Greenhouse
577 Walnut St, Galena
We enjoy visiting and supporting local companies. They had a variety of food items and of course, greenhouse items. We passed this little haunted house on our way to a new park last fall. It was free. My oldest loved pressing the buttons on the interactive pieces and my middle enjoyed the Dino in the egg. They had a lot of seasonal decor, pumpkin rolls, cider and more as well.
4. Sticky Fingers Ice Cream Parlor
5140 Cheshire Rd. Galena
This is the cutest little ice cream parlor you ever did see! They also offer craft nights, princess events, and have the Delaware parks programs visit. The ice cream flights are the way to go for adults! And they have super fun ice cream choices for kids.
5. Ruffner and Miller Park
Two other options are to check out Ruffner Park and Miller Park. They both have playgrounds for kids and plenty of open play space. Who doesn’t like a ‘new to you park’?
Ruffner Park
183 Harrison St. Galena
An old school playground with metal slides, teeter totters, and a legit merry go round! It also had a ball field. And our favorite, a creeking gem.
Check out this post from Columbus For Kids on more details about: Ruffner Park
254 N Walnut St. Galena
There are two playsets for varying ages. The smaller set has cute duck and turtle ride-ons. The older set has climbing obstacles and a firetruck. There is also a basketball court and connected bike trails.
6. Downtown Galena
The town is super cute and has some restaurants and a little grassy square area with a swing. There are restaurants as well. The Coffee Vault, Galena Diner, and Son of Thurman (opened in 2021).
7. St. John Neumann Catholic Church
Address: 9633 East State Route 37, Sunbury (Not far from Galena)
Another fun spot to check out!
