My family celebrates with ice cream on a regular basis. We practically look for an excuse to enjoy a scoop of our favorite frozen treat. (Survived the first day of virtual school? Let’s have some ice cream! Bravely endured the flu shot? Let’s have some ice cream! Proud parenting moment? Let’s have some ice cream!) With October being National Cookie Month, we couldn’t turn down an opportunity to create a fun, yet simple way to enjoy our ice cream with Hudsonville Ice Cream!
Let’s be honest, we love enjoying our ice cream in a bowl, on a cone or loaded with all sorts of fun toppings in a sundae. Adding our favorite cookie flavors to our ice cream added a whole new level of excitement in our house! Anyone with kids ages 5 and younger can relate- simple and easy is always better when it comes to hands on family activities, including building a cookie ice cream sundae together. I have created a few simple yet yummy options for building your own cookie ice cream sundae to enjoy this month with your littles.
Steps to Build a Cookie Ice Cream Sundae:
For our Cookie Sundaes we used Hudsonville’s Deer Traxx, Brownie Batter Cookie Dough and Classic Chocolate. Mackinac Island Fudge is also a good choice! Hudsonville has dozens of flavors to choose from, including some with cookie pieces.
We chose to use store bought cookies this time, but if you like to bake with your littles you may also use homemade.
We decided to go big with our sundae toppings because our motto is, you can never have too much of a good thing. We used crushed peanuts and walnuts, fresh raspberries, caramel and chocolate topping, marshmallows, sprinkles and whipped cream.
Both of my kids had wide eyes and faces filled with joy as we were preparing our ice cream cookie sundaes together.
Here are three ice cream sundaes that we created, but really, you can’t go wrong with any options you may choose to create your own.
My daughter loves Hudsonville’s Deer Traxx ice cream. The peanut butter cups mixed with fudgy swirls in vanilla ice cream makes it delicious for a sundae too. Here’s how we created her delicious ice cream sundae.
- One scoop of Hudsonville Deer Traxx ice cream
- One M&M cookie
- A handful of marshmallows
- A spoonful of room temperature caramel topping
- A spoonful of sprinkles
- A dollop of whipped cream
After adding our ingredients in order, she could barely get the bowl in front of her before she dug her spoon in to enjoy her cookie with ice cream. She gave me a nod and thumbs up as she devoured her ice cream cookie sundae within minutes.
My son is a huge chocolate fan. He gets that from his mama. Follow these steps to make his chocolate lovers cookie ice cream sundae.
- One scoop of Hudsonville Brownie Batter Cookie Dough ice cream
- One double chocolate chip cookie
- A handful of marshmallows
- A spoonful of sprinkles
- A dollop of whipped cream
After adding all the ingredients to the bowl, he grabbed and ate the double chocolate chip cookie out of the bowl before I could set it down. Then he enjoyed his ice cream sundae exclaiming how good it was between bites.
If you are feeling a little less adventurous with your flavors and prefer a more classic taste, you may enjoy a classic creamy chocolate cookie sundae with a twist. Here is what we used to create my favorite in order:
- One scoop of Hudsonville Chocolate ice cream
- One double chocolate chip cookie
- A drizzle of room temperature caramel topping
- A handful of fresh raspberries
- A spoonful of chopped walnuts
- A dollop of whipped cream
Regardless of your favorite flavor of ice cream or cookie, it doesn’t have to be complicated to enjoy National Cookie Month with your family. I hope you take a moment to make a simple and delicious cookie ice cream sundae with your littles and watch their faces light up with excitement as you combine their favorite flavors of ice cream and cookies together. Enjoy!
